How to use Periodic table

Hydrogen
1 = Atomic Number ( The number of protons in an atom defines what this element is)
H = Atomic Symbol (The atomic symbol is the letter chosen to represent an element)
1.008 =Atomic Weight ( Is the average mass of an element in atomic mass units)

To calculate the molecular weight, find the atomic weight of each atom (element) from the periodic table and then multiply that number by the element's atomic weight.

Examples of caculating Element Atomic Weight ( How to use peridic table )

  • Salt - NaCl

    Atomic weight refer fom the periodic table
    Na (Sodium) = 23
    Cl (Chlorine) =35
    Therefore molecular weight = 23+35=58


  • Ammonia - NH3

    Atomic weight found fom the periodic table
    N (Nitrogen) = 14
    H (Hydrogen) = 1
    Therefore molecular weight = 14+(1x3)=17

  • Vinegar (acetic acid) - CH3COOH

    Atomic weight found fom the periodic table
    C (Carbon) =12
    H (Hydrogen) =1
    C (Carbon) 12
    O (Oxygen) 16
    H (Hydrogen) 1
    Therefore molecular weight =12+(1x3)+12+16+16+1=60
